Despite a new look to the lineup this season, Woodstock Academy golf coach Rich Garceau thinks his team is ready to contend for the state tournament.

“The overall talent level is a little bit less than last year, after losing Cody Semmelrock. That’s going to hurt any team,” Garceau said Thursday after his team captured the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division and Open titles for the second straight season at New London Country Club.

“But what really impressed me with these guys, even though we lost Cody, they really stepped up,” Garceau said. “The level of play, I think, is actually better than what we had last year.”
