I don't mean good-looking - I mean, she is - but it's her career that's on fire right now.
You can see the 20-year-old Louisville, Ky., native beginning today as the young shape-shifter Mystique in "X-Men: First Class" (review on Page 4). Lawrence also is featured in a prominent role in Jodie Foster's "The Beaver," which is in limited release and is tentatively slated to arrive in Charlotte later this month.
And if you're lucky - maybe you landed a gig as an extra - you can see her in North Carolina: Lawrence is the star of "Hunger Games," the adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic young adult book currently shooting in our area.
Aren't yet familiar with Hollywood's newest "It Girl"? Here are three movies you can rent to get you up to speed:
"The Burning Plain" (2008): Although the film and its disorienting multiple narratives about parental infidelity failed to connect with critics, Lawrence earned raves for her turn as Kim Basinger's suspicious daughter, who sets off a chain of events that changes the lives of all of the characters.
"Winter's Bone" (2010): She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, playing an unflinching Ozark teen who treads dangerous ground as she searches for her meth-cooking father while trying to be a guardian for her younger siblings. Bleak movie, but it's an absolutely astonishing performance.
"Like Crazy" (2011): In this well-liked but little-seen indie romantic drama about two lovers (Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones) in a long-distance relationship, Lawrence - as another girl attracted to Yelchin - "turns out the film's most heartbreaking character, despite having little more than a dozen lines to her credit," wrote Andrew Barker in his review for Variety.
