Hunterdon sets Memorial Day parades, ceremonies

In observance of Memorial Day, many Hunterdon communities will be holding parades and ceremonies in memory of the military personnel who gave their lives in the service of our country.
ALEXANDRIA TWP. — The middle school band and chorus will perform at a memorial ceremony Thursday, May 26 at 6 p.m. at the school, where 6,000 flags will commemorate 1.2 million soldiers who have died at war. American Legion Post 113 of Frenchtown will serve as honor guard.
CALIFON — On Monday, May 30, the Califon Recreation Committee presents the 10th annual Califon Memorial Day Parade.
Starting at 11 a.m. on School Street, the parade will feature Saint Ann of Hampton Drums and Pipes, Company A of the 15th New Jersey Volunteers Infantry, antique cars, Scout troops, and local fire and rescue squads.
The parade heads down Main Street to Califon Island Park. In honor of those being remembered, Saint Ann Drum and Pipes will play from the center of the Califon bridge.
A memorial service will held at noon next to the Califon Veterans Memorial. The national anthem will be sung by the Voorhees High School Choir while local Scouts raise the American flag. Afterward, there will be food and drinks for purchase from Califon Fire Company, more music by Voorhees choir, fun fitness for kids on the Fun Bus, an 18-hole Frisbee golf game and other activities for all.
