Veteran marathoner keeps moving forward

Michelle Desrosiers is running her fifth KeyBank  City Marathon this year, and it promises to be her sweetest yet.Desrosiers, 36, has two young boys — Sam, 5, and Bradon, 3 — who were even younger in 2009 when she last ran the Vermont marathon, making training a difficult proposition. In 2009, she was only able to get in one 12-mile training run.

To make matters worse, Desrosiers had recently lost her job of 11 years at IBM in Essex Junction, and was having a difficult time finding new work. She quickly realized she wasn’t cut out to be a stay-at-home mom.

“I need adult stimulation,” Desrosiers said Thursday.

Desrosiers, who lives in Bakersfield, is prone to exercise-induced migraine headaches, and in 2009, with all of the swirling emotions in her life converging on her marathon run, disaster struck at mile 16, on Battery Hill.

“I passed out during the race,” Desrosiers said.
