During the final episode of "American Idol" last season, Kris Allen got the chance to come out and perform his new single "The Truth." Season seven winner David Cook has a similar opportunity back in 2009.
So why isn't Lee DeWyze being asked to do the same this year? It's a question that has many fans of the reigning champ (and even some people close to him) more than a little upset. (One of the people who originally expressed their anger at the show -- Lee's own brother Michael -- has since apologized for some of his remarks.)
First, it should be pointed out that Lee is trying to be diplomatic about the situation. Here is what he wrote in a new post on Twitter:

"Hey guys, no I'm not performing at the Finale. I wasn't asked to . A lot of questions so I thought I'd fill you in. Talk to you soon :)"Should "Idol" be obligated to support some of their former champs? Lee did give a performance of "Beautiful Like You" on the show earlier this season, and they have also featured his face in the theme song throughout the season. While the ultimately have no obligation to do anything at all, it would have certainly been nice out of courtesy to give Lee 3-4 minutes in a lengthy finale (one that usually clocks in at over two hours) to launch a new single.
